Lightning Goalie Breaks Stick in Anger
Last week it was Pekka Rinne, but tonight it was Tampa Bay Lightning goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy who broke his stick in anger.
With just under seven minutes to play in the game, the Penguins held on to a two goal lead as they forced another 2 on 1 rush. Vasilevskiy was able to make the initial save on Penguins forward Chris Kunitz, however, his Lightning teammates were unable to clear the puck away after.
After a failed clear attempt by Victor Hedman, the puck bounced to Cedric Paquette. Unfortunately, he ended up hitting the puck right back to Kunitz who fired a quick shot past a scrambling Vasilevskiy.
The goal was Pittsburgh’s third of the final period, and made the score 4-1. He was clearly upset by his teams inability to clear the puck away, and took out all frustrations on the goal stick. He stomped down on the stick with his skate, and then tossed it over to the Penguins bench.
Tampa Bay would add another goal late in the game, but Pittsburgh would still win by a final of 4-2.
