Curtis McElhinney Run Over by Max Domi
Last night turned into a rough night for goaltenders as Antti Raanta took a slap shot off the mask, and then later on Curtis McElhinney was on the wrong end of a big collision with Max Domi.
McElhinney, who plays for the Columbus Blue Jackets, came out of his crease to challenge Max Domi, of the Arizona Coyotes, before he was hit. The play unfolded as Domi split the Blue Jackets defenseman and broke in alone on McElhinney. With McElhinney so far out of his net, Domi didn’t have much time to avoid to goaltender, instead getting a quick shot off before running into him.
McElhinney’s helmet went flying off as a result of the collision, and his head smacked the ice on his way down. Fortunately, he was not seriously injured on the play and stayed in net for the last four and a half minutes of the game.
Domi was a good sport about it though, checking to ensure McElhinney was alright and grabbing the goalies mask for him. You have to love to see that kind of sportsmanship in the game today.
