Antti Raanta Takes Slap Shot off the Mask

In case you missed it, Antti Raanta of the New York Rangers was forced to leave yesterday’s game against the Minnesota Wild after taking a slap shot off the mask.

The play occurred with about six minutes left in the first period when Wild defenseman Marco Scandella received the puck with plenty of time to shoot. He unleashed a booming slapshot while the puck was still on end, knuckle puck style, so with little time to react, Raanta likely had no idea where that puck would end up.

Raanta was clearly shaken up on the play and headed to the dressing room after regaining his composure. He did not return to the game.

Raanta wasn’t the only goalie shaken up last night. Columbus Blue Jackets goalie Curtis McElhinney was involved in a pretty serious collision with Arizona Coyotes forward Max Domi.
